2019 Iowa Legislative Priorities

  • Enact legislation requiring homeschool parents to submit an annual notification of intent to the superintendent of the school district of residence.

  • Adopt recommendations identified by the work group to examine current mandatory reporter training and certification requirements.

  • Enact legislation for awareness and prevention of child sexual abuse and sexual assault.

  • Promote child and family resilience.


The Maternal Infant Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program sends trained professionals - parents, nurses and case managers - into the homes of at-risk moms to provide support and education. The program currently serves 649 Iowa families each year resulting in 92% of children up-to-date on their well-child exams and a 23% increase in employment among caregivers.
