School Policies

Iowa law prohibits school district employees from physically or sexually abusing students. In administrative rules, the Department of Education has established a two-step procedure for investigating allegations of physical or sexual abuse of students by employees. In order for the school district to have jurisdiction over the acts and to constitute a violation of the law, acts of the employee must be alleged to have occurred on school grounds, on school time, at a school-sponsored activity, or in a school-related context. The student, however, can be from another school district.

Individuals may file a complaint as outlined in the school's student handbook. Student handbooks will notify you who the investigator is and his/her contact information. Learn more.
