Happy 2025!

A new year brings the chance to begin another chapter in your life―your unique journey filled with curiosity, growth, discovery, mistakes, successes and happiness. Similarly, 2025 marks a monumental moment for Prevent Child Abuse Iowa as we add another chapter to our own legacy: 50 chapters, to be exact. That’s right―PCA Iowa will turn 50 this year!!!

It’s incredible to think that this organization began with a small group of passionate volunteers. These dedicated individuals traveled across Iowa, creating a grassroots movement to educate and inform physicians and community members about identifying and preventing child abuse. Their passion and commitment were nothing short of extraordinary. I can only imagine the countless hours and miles they devoted, often hearing, “No, child abuse doesn’t happen in Iowa,” yet persevering to make a difference. Their work was both exhausting and immensely rewarding. I am forever grateful to these founding members, who used their voices to advocate for children and families, making Iowa a better place to raise healthy and happy children.

While Prevent Child Abuse Iowa looks different today, the same passion and dedication continues to thrive. It’s evident in the work of our staff, board members, volunteers, and the countless community members who dedicate themselves daily to supporting children and families. This year, we’re celebrating not just our history, but the ongoing commitment of everyone who has helped shape our mission.

You’re invited to join us for a FREE, family-friendly 50th birthday celebration on Sunday, June 22 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Reiman Gardens in Ames. The event will feature live children’s music, the Iowa League of Heroes including the Batmobile, face painting, exploration of the butterfly garden, a chance to meet Elwood―the world’s largest concrete gnome―and so much more. Naturally, there will be ice cream and cake – it’s just not a birthday party without them! (At least, that’s how we celebrated in my house!)

Throughout 2025, I’ll be sharing more stories about our history and some of the incredible individuals who have contributed to our success. I hope you’ll join us in celebrating this milestone and becoming part of our 50th chapter!
